“Kites and Hats!” “Kites and Hats!” “Kites and Hats!” “Kites and Hats!”
That was the sound heard at the James Hamblin School's steak night and fund-raiser late last year. That's right, a booming chant broke out praising our fine H.O.O.K.A.H. Social Club. The glorious chanting was heard throughout the building, everyone thankful for, having our proud order in their community.
I should set this up a bit. The local Qu'Appelle K-9 school was looking to pad their coffers a bit. That's actually a very poor description, they were looking to raise a little money for some much needed items that are no longer supplied by the school board. Things like playground equipment, outdoor seating and tables, and other items that would seem well suited to an elementary school.
Their fund-raiser of choice? A steak night and silent auction. The steak was well seasoned and cooked just as I had asked it to be cooked. Drinks were reasonably priced, the wine was an especially good deal at only a few tickets for a bottle. I had several.
Then it was time to peruse the auction, and look how best to contribute. It was then that I spotted Stephen Harper, yes the same one that attended our Boston Lee event , and is currently the Prime Minister of Canada. But even better, I spotted this.
A hand made toque and scarf.
A sizable bid was placed on the item, and as you can guess, we won. As soon as the announcement was made, the entire building erupted with the chant:
“Kites and Hats!” “Kites and Hats!” “Kites and Hats!” “Kites and Hats!”
