The Holy Order Of Kites And Hats invites you to join us in our quest to make the world a better place.
What we're doing, and how it helps:
Simply put, we are loaning small amounts of money to some of the world's poorest people to help them start or expand their own businesses and escape poverty. We do this with the assistance of Kiva, a non-profit internet company which links individual lenders to people all over the world in need of financial assistance.
How you can help:
You can sign up and become your own lender. This will allow you to choose who you will lend your money to, and to recieve feedback on how your loan has improved the lives of others. When your loan is repaid, you then have the choice to withdrawl your original principle, or to re-loan the funds to someone else. To get started, view our team page http://kiva.org/team/kitesandhats and sign up.
Who have we helped so far?
Our fourth loan was to Khayriya Habiba in West Bank Palestine,
Khayriya is a 49-year-old mother from Jenin. Khayriya and her husband are raising two daughters and four sons. The daughters are still school students, but one son works in the Ministry of Education, one is a college student, and one is employee in Israel.
The father is a taxi driver and, with the help of his working son, he covers house expenses, and his daughters' and sons' educational expenses.
Khayriya's sons and husband are doing better now at affording their living expenses, so she took a $3,000 loan from FATEN to pay off her husband's debt and give him the chance to purchase a small piece of land to help them have a better future.
Our third loan was to Anavita Monge Navarro in Costa Rica,
Anavita Monge Navarro is 47 years old. She is single and has two children who are her main priority. The children are 14 and 16 years old, respectively. She wants this loan in order to help her farm. The basic project consists in making seedbeds for coffee. She wants to make the seedbeds, then plant part of them and sell the rest to other farmers. By maintaining the plants adequately, she will have a better harvest and then she will have greater economic earnings. This is not her first loan with FUDECOSUR and she is very happy with the opportunities given. She says that this has helped her make progress with her projects. She hopes in the future, she will give her children an education and a better quality of life.
Our second loan was to Ramzan in Pakistan,
My name is Ramzan and I have lived in a city named Kot Radha Kishan, Pakistan for the past 10 years. My husband's name is Khuda Baksh and he is a driver by profession and drives a 32 seat coaster. He is buying this vehicle on instalments. I am applying for a loan to pay the remaining instalments on our vehicle so that my husband can work without any tension regarding the instalments.
Our first loan was to Abdullo Rasulov,
Abdullo Rasulov lives in the Khuroson district. He is 23 years old, married, but does not yet have children. Ever since his childhood, Abdullo has been involved in agriculture with his father. They plant vegetables and melon varieties. It is currently the season to sow watermelons, and this is why Abdullo reached out to us to obtain the loan. He wants to purchase seeds, fertilizer and plastic film. If he is able to purchase quality seeds, he will be able to obtain a quality harvest.
