Recently, I made a single item purchase at the Michaels Store in Regina, SK Canada. I was utterly shocked when the employee gave me a 19 inch long receipt to record my single item purchase. What a waste. Please read more, and sign the petition to help put a stop to unnecessary receipt paper waste.
Why so long? Well, this particular receipt happens to have a survey, a coupon, and several terms and conditions. Why put this nonsense on every receipt? The survey needs to be filled out online anyways, wouldn't a verbal reminder to check the webpage, or a well placed sign be sufficient? What about the coupon? Wouldn't a 1 item per person in store sale do the trick? Or, record the cupon in the till using the phone number you already collect. It could then be applied automatically. Of course these changes are possible!
Stores need to start paying attention to unnecessary waste. Aside from the obvious environmental problems caused by paper waste, there's the simple fact that each bit of unnecessary waste drive up prices, and reduces the purchasing power of our hard earned wages.
Now, I don't think Michaels is the only store that's guilty of printing huge receipts. Futureshop, Staples, and Bestbuy all do the same thing. But, let's start with Michaels. Lets make a stand here and now to reduce unnecessary corporate waste, to bring down consumer prices, and to save the environment.
Please sign this petition.
